Summary

Thomas is called as one of the apostles. Thomas is referred to as “the twin.”

Thomas spoke courageously. Thomas was honest about what he knew and what he believed. Jesus told Thomas that He heard what Thomas said, and Thomas admitted he was wrong. Thomas is the first apostle to simply call Jesus “God.” Jesus blessed those who have faith as Thomas did

The Church of the East believes it was founded by Thomas. The “Acts of Thomas” describes his mission to India. Western church fathers refer to the apostolate of Thomas. The western church tradition says that Thomas had an extensive ministry from Mesopotamia to India.

The Indian church tradition also says that Thomas had an extensive ministry in India. Archaeology confirms some aspects of these traditions. European explorers found established churches in India, and most of them have merged or affiliated with other fellowships from the west.

The Western churches use the phrase “doubting Thomas,” but the Eastern churches think of Thomas as a man of faith.
